Stroke Treatment

What is a Stroke?

A stroke occurs when there is a blockage or rupture of blood vessels in the brain. It results in the brain being deprived of oxygen and nutrients, leading to brain cell damage.

  • Types of Strokes:
    • Ischemic Stroke – Caused by a blood clot blocking a vessel.
    • Hemorrhagic Stroke – Caused by the rupture of a blood vessel.
    • Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) – A temporary blockage, also known as a “mini-stroke.”

Signs and Symptoms of Stroke

  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg (especially on one side).
  • Confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding speech.
  • Vision problems in one or both eyes.
  • Severe headache with no known cause.
  • Difficulty walking, dizziness, or loss of balance.

  • πŸ’‰ Anticoagulants and Antiplatelets – Prevent further clotting.
  • 🧠 Antihypertensive drugs – To lower high blood pressure, a risk factor for stroke.

3. Surgical Interventions

  • ⚑ Endovascular Procedures – Removal of clots using a catheter (for ischemic strokes).
  • πŸ₯ Surgery – For hemorrhagic strokes, surgery may be needed to stop bleeding or repair a ruptured vessel.

4. Post-Stroke Rehabilitation

  • πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ Physical Therapy – Helps improve movement and coordination.
